Effects of coefficient of friction coupled with a deformation dependent friction model in cutting simulations

A deformation dependent stick-slip based friction model is realised to better represent the contact stresses in secondary shear zone. The instantaneous nodal limiting stress implemented a VFRIC subroutine ABAQUS\Explicit 2D ALE orthogonal cutting simulations investigate effects on accuracy of simulations. This study highlights that varies along rake face, as well with angle and uncut chip thickness. Lower coefficients are necessary at lower angles higher thicknesses, although variable coefficient still predict both force thrust accurately together.
